Summary
“… You know, I don’t think anyone else ever brushed my hair for me since…” Ryo started in a low voice before pausing.
“Since?” Nasutei prompted gently, never stopping brushing.
“Since my mother passed away,” Ryo admitted softly. She sounded embarrassed and wistful at the same time, and Nasutei had to resist the urge to hug the younger girl right there. “Dad never… He never had time for that, and he didn’t know how to do hairstyles anyway,” she mumbled. “And then I cut them very short, because it was easier.”
Yes, and he preferred to see you with short hairs because then, he could momentarily forget and pretend you were a boy, Nasutei thought crossly.
Or, Nasutei and Ryo have a bonding moment and Nasutei wishes, not for the first time, that she and Ryo's father could have Words (and so do the rest of the Troopers).

“No,” Suiko answers before Tenku can. “Don’t get me wrong, I’d like nothing more than to settle a score or two with you,” he warns, the usual sweetness of his eyes replaced by cold anger. “But it’s not what’s today is about. What we want is to deliver a warning.”
“About?” Anubisu asks with just a touch of wariness. He’s not really worried, Rajura thinks, but better to appear as if the pups’ display is cause for concern, least they anger more.
“About Ryo,” Kongo says flatly. “And about wandering eyes.”
Aaaaaah, Rajura thinks, and he knows Anubisu and Naaza comes to the same realization as him in the same breath.
THIS is what it’s all about, isn’t it?
Or, the Troopers have a message to deliver to the Masho. Just because they're now on the same side doesn't mean they are free to look Ryo up, else...!

They can be excused for missing the obvious at first glance, though; after all, it's not as if Rekka ever acts in a feminine manner where they can see her, right?

Ryo’s greatest sin is to have been born a girl.
It’s something she cannot properly articulate until she’s much older and aware of how wrong her situation is, but it’s something she has always been aware of deep down.
Maybe it hadn’t been a sin when her Mom had still been there. Back when the Sanada had still been a true family.
But it became one the moment she died and left her husband and young daughter alone in the world.
But Ryo is only five right now, and all those things go over her head.
Mostly.
But she’s a bright girl – Mom always told her so, calling Ryo ‘her little sunshine’ or her ‘favorite wildflower’ – and so, she understands a lot of things already.
She understands Dad is avoiding her and shuttering himself in his room since the funeral because he can’t stand to look at her.

Coaxing Ryo to climb into the car was an exercise in patience and frustration both, but Nasutei wouldn’t let herself be deterred.
She had stolen a police officer bike. She had ridden a white tiger while pursued by demons wearing samurai armors on chariot. She had played lure for a Masho to let a teen meditate and find his inner strength. She had dodged attempts at killing or capturing her more times than she cared to count. She had followed five teenagers in mystical armor to another realm while taking care of a child who had no true appreciation of the danger, even if Jun had tried to be as sensible as his age allowed him to be.
Nasutei was NOT going to lose this time either, not for something as mundane as coaxing a teenager girl as going on a shopping trip!
Or, in between their major battles with Arago, Ryo needs clothes and Nasutei is on the case.
