Summary
"Favored soft-throated pet, the most cooperative, the easiest to work with, the most beautiful to look at. Would all of the angels receive this liked thing, this good thing? Iriel wanted them to be happy, he was an altruist and a flock animal, but a secret rotten desire craved something special between himself and his owner."

Summary
"Primordial awareness cracks open within you, and your reality is albumen-slick shell, coppery membrane and bloodscent around a vein of crimson light.
Artificial warmth has incubated your unconscious stirrings, warmed your opaline yolk and its chalazic tethers. A shimmer buds at your fontanel, urging you to continue your important work. You had still been asleep when you'd elbowed your shell until it split. Now, you know you are hatching."
---
Fresh and unknowing, a young angel awakens in a hatchery with demons as his custodians, only to find that life has been marked out for him: he is prey, livestock. Whatever innocence remains is packaged into something useful.

Summary
"The halo above the angel’s head spasmed again, its aquamarine light dimming, then flaring in uneven pulses. The sound it made sharpened, the whine rising toward a thin, insectile pitch. His breath came faster now, shallow and bright with panic, misting faintly in the cold air. He pressed his shoulder harder into the brick, as if the wall might remember Heaven and open for him."
---
A fallen angel has a run-in with a human stranger.
