Pulling it out, it’s a picture of Amy, originally it’d been in his wallet. He’d traded it out to keep it under his pillow instead.
His eyes shut.

Summary
The metal is cold, and heavy in his hand. Alex had only handled guns from Brian and he didn’t know the intricacies of it, there was a science to it and Brian understood it, Alex was spooked by the sounds.
He didn’t stick around to figure it out, hesitant fingers dragged against the smooth finish of it.
“Alex, when did you get this?” Amy’s voice rings in his ears, a small thud rattling from the wooden door table and he peers up at Amy, she’s lingering over his chair and he shuts his laptop.
“Where did you find that?” Alex blurts out, his words are faster than his brain. It sounds horrible and he sees the way Amy’s eyes narrow.

Summary
Alex swallows, carding his fingers through Amy’s hair, carefully separating strands. She doesn’t argue or protest. She doesn’t keen into his touch either. He doesn’t think she would but regardless, she can’t do that anyways.
Not anymore, that is.
Alex’s arms tighten around Amy, cradling her head. It’s better to see this, do this, than see everything that made Amy, Well, Amy, fade away.
He’d done the right thing, despite the ache in his chest that tells him otherwise.

She’d found the gun tucked away in the drawer because he’d gotten sloppy and brought it inside, and forgotten about it when things begin to die down just a bit. Just in case things happen, neighborhoods have been bad, it hadn’t been a lie but, it hadn’t been the truth either. Just in case things happened, so he felt safe, and for worse-case scenario. ( When did we get a gun, Alex? )
But Amy didn’t need to know that.
And she wouldn’t know that.
He should do it now before he backs out. He needs to do it now before he screws up and does something and hurts her instead without an end in mind.
That’s what the gun is for, right? Quick and painless.
