The greatest mystery, however? Astarion is there, too, when he could have looted the tiefling's unconscious pockets and left him to potentially die, as the spawn had often threatened to do if he ever got the chance. He even seems worried.

Summary
Between killing a goblin army, saving groves, investigating a new cult, and finding a way to safely extract brain worms, a good, sufficient camp is crucial and needs to be maintained.
Durge, Gale, Karlach, Astarion, and D'ylân run into a gang of bandits on their way back from a successful grocery run. The encounter could have ended badly for D'ylân, whose bardic talents unfortunately still don't include sword fighting. A few well-aimed arrows take care of the threat, by accident, as Astarion insists, who also has no interest in letting D'ylân live his incompetence down.
Of all things, it's a dandelion that puts an end to their banter, and it's what gets them to talk to each other again.
In the middle of a flower field, under the warm afternoon sun, maybe, theoretically, growing a friendship despite everything these two men are suddenly doesn't seem as impossible as it used to be.

Summary
The game events not only ended with Astarion as a spawn free from a sadistic master he never wanted, but also in a relationship with D'ylân, a tiefling bard, a pleasure dom who would never do anything with Astarion that he didn't want.
It took a while until Astarion rebuilt the relationship with his own body, but as he did, things he used to hate suddenly piqued his curiosity, and proved to be surprisingly enjoyable if done with someone he loved and trusted and who worshipped and spoiled him.
This time, Astarion suggested what he thought was a rather simple experiment: He asked D'ylân to gag him during sex.
But somehow, it turned out more complicated than expected when they had to interrupt what started so well. Thankfully, it was nothing that love and words of reassurance couldn't solve.
