Summary
A dove had landed beside her, pristine and impossibly out of place.
It was a stupid thing. Foolish. It did not know where it had landed, nor the company it kept. It did not know that monsters lurked beside it.
And neither did it know that he was there.
A soft rustle of fabric, a measured step. Scaramouche crouched beside her, a presence at once casual and oppressive. He had noticed, of course. He always noticed.

Summary
“Father,” she recognized him for what he was. A reverend, her superior, someone she had insulted in a house of worship. Lumine couldn't help the way longing framed the word as it left her mouth. She had a shameful weakness around authority figures; her craving for guidance, for a parental figure to save her, had always made her attach quickly. Those blue eyes slid back up to her, and she felt warmth coil in her gut that almost made her sick.

Summary
Scaramouche exhaled a satisfied sigh, tilting his head as if contemplating something insignificant, something fleeting. A pity, truly, that she couldn’t see what he saw—the sheer artistry in control, in restraint, in making her own anticipation work against her.
The room was his, the chains were his, and—most importantly—so was she.
