Summary
Techno just sits there, staring at the wall. He has to just stare at the wall a lot- he’s not allowed out of his room except for surgeries. And after them, he has to stay in bed for a few days, or a week or two, before his parents will let him sit in his wheelchair. And even then, there isn’t much to look at except the sky outside his narrow little window, or his books.
He wonders, sometimes, what it looks like outside. His books say there are trees, and that they’re green, but Techno’s never seen even a picture of a tree, so he doesn’t have any idea what they look like. He’s read about rivers, and the ocean, and mountains, and snow and flowers and a million other things that he doesn’t know how to imagine.
He wonders if he’ll ever get a chance to see any of them. To see anything except the white walls and tiled ceilings and medical equipment he’s grown up surrounded by.or, Techno has spent his whole life in this room. but unbeknownst to him, everything is about to change.

Summary
Wilbur’s been feeling especially bad the last few days. He always feels bad- that’s just life, with spina bifida- but he’s exhausted, his head hurts, he feels kind of sick but he hasn’t puked or anything.
…it’s probably fine. He probably just isn’t fully over the last surgery yet. He had another one just three weeks ago, and he’s home now, but usually he feels better than this by the time they send him home.
Wilbur doesn’t complain. He never complains, because he knows he needs the surgeries and the treatments to get better- to live. To make his life easier and better.ai-less whumptober day 12

“We’ll find another doctor,” Phil says, starting the car. “Somebody who specializes in spina bifida. We’ll figure this out-”
“I can’t have an abortion,” Kristin whispers, shaky and thin. “Phil, I can’t- I don’t know how the hell we’re supposed to do this but I want him, I want him so much. Even if he’s- even if-”
Her voice breaks. He reaches across the center console and takes her hand, squeezing tightly.
