Summary
Ilya feels like he knows everything and nothing about Shane at once. He's a child of Nike, his team always wins Capture-the-flag, he's still in touch with his biological father, and he's obscenely lucky.
What he doesn't know, is if Shane is the best or the worst person to quest with.
//
Aristotle's qualifications for a Greek tragedy include dianoia (thought and introspection) and opsis (spectacle and performance). Shane and Ilya bring both to the table.Series

Summary
“I’m sorry, buddy,” he says, “I should’ve known you weren’t feeling it.” Shane finally looks at him. He makes a low, unfamiliar sound, vibrating through the water. It is confused and searching, a sound Hayden doesn't hear from him often.
Somewhere deep in the facility, a heavy impact reverberates through the walls, metal groaning under the strain. Ilya. Hayden closes his eyes. Ilya is bigger, faster. And he wants to kill Shane.

Summary
Shane's mouth opens and closes. Blood bubbles at his lips. He thinks of Ilya. Not as he is now, god-bright and terrible, but laughing, unhelmed, with his hair loose and his hands stained with oil and dust. He thinks of the tent, of shared bread, of the long, quiet hours when the war felt distant and survivable.
“Ilya,” he manages, it comes out as a breath more than a word, a plea.

Summary
“Shane!” Ilya breaks the surface and swims towards him, voice low and alarmed. He reaches for Shane’s wrist, “we can’t—“
But then he stills, because he catches the awe-filled look on Shane’s face as they tred water the surface. His head is stilted back, hair slicked against his skull, his mouth open in wonder. Ilya spins and follows his dark eyes up. Above them, a thousand stars glitter in the inky black.

Summary
“I can bring her in, yes. As many times as necessary. I am very responsible.”
Shane gives him an odd look and double-checks his chart. “I will hold you to that, Mr Rozanov. It’s a commitment. She’ll be a handful.”
Ilya doesn’t flinch. “I have hands.”
//

Summary
On good days it was a low pressure system, dull and manageable.
On bad days it rolled in without notice, sharp enough to steal his breath for a second, but never long enough to justify leaving the ice. He felt the creeping increase like the buzz of static in the air before a thunderstorm, the way you could detect rain in the air long before it fell.
There was a quiet pride in that, even if he didn’t like to admit it.

Summary
Shane curls in on himself, arms wrapped around his middle, shaking uncontrollably. His vision tunnels, the corridor swimming in and out of focus. “Rozanov,” he says weakly, sounding pathetic even to his own ears.
Ilya is suddenly there, dropping to his knees in front of him, hands gentler now, trembling as they hover before settling, framing Shane’s shoulders, solidly real. “Are you hurt?” he demands. Shane blinks at him, swallows around a pained throat. “Shane. Are you hurt?”
//
