Summary
Ilya points up. “Shooting star.”
“Make a wish,” Shane teases, but when he looks at Ilya, his eyes are closed, hands clasped together like he’s actually wishing. Not wanting him to be alone, Shane closes his eyes, too, and he wishes harder than he’s ever wished before.
When he opens his eyes, Ilya is grinning at him, then he turns, leaning against the railing with his back to the city. “What did you wish for?”
“I can’t tell you, that’s how it works. You can’t tell anyone what you wished for.”
After their encounter in the Tampa hotel room, Shane and Ilya escape to look at the stars.

“My dad definitely liked you. You share his taste in vodka.”
Ilya hums, running a hand up and down Shane’s arm. “See? You are worried about nothing.”
“I know, I just… I’ve had this hanging over me for years, and now that it’s over with…”
“You look lighter,” Ilya tells him, brushing his fingers against Shane’s cheek. “More peaceful.”
“I feel lighter, but I’m scared,” he admits, fingers drifting down to Ilya’s abdomen, tracing the lines and ridges he finds there. “We’ve never done this before—the actually being together part. I’m scared I’ll mess it up.”
Shane and Ilya return to the cottage after the confrontation with Shane’s parents.

Summary
Footsteps come running over, Shane grasping at Ilya’s face, his shoulders, worry in his eyes as he looks him up and down as if making sure he’s okay. “What is it? What happened?”
“There’s a fucking creature on your mirror, Hollander,” Ilya tells him, gesturing far wider than he needs to. “This big. Is enormous.”
“It can’t be that big,” he mutters, then he opens the door, and starts laughing. “Oh my god.”
“Close the door, Shane, we can’t let it out!”
“What?” Shane opens the door even wider, the creature now fully visible in the light. It’s just as terrifying from far away, the eye spots making Ilya feel like it’s staring at him. It sees into his soul—it’s going to come for Ilya in the night and crawl all over him. Disgusting. “It’s just a moth, Ilya.”
A bug has entered the cottage. Shane is totally cool about it. Ilya is not.

Summary
“Mr. Hollander, what’s your designation?” One of the doctors, a beta woman with kind eyes, asks, typing away at a nearby computer.
“He’s an omega,” Ilya replies for him, because at the moment, all Shane can say is “ow.”
“Any chance he’s pregnant?”
“Maybe? He’s on suppressants.”
Or Shane goes into labor at the cottage, which would be fine, if he’d known he was pregnant.
