She leaned forward again.
Looked at the face.
Touched the orange hair.

Then she looked down.
Then back at the mirror.
“…This is not my body.”
There was a pause.
“…This is Ichigo Kurosaki’s body.”
Silence.
A deep, cosmic silence filled the bathroom.
Somewhere in the distance, fate laughed.
Unohana closed her eyes.
She inhaled.
Exhaled.
Then she calmly turned the faucet on, splashed cold water onto her face, and looked back up.
Still Ichigo.
“…”
“…I see.”
She turned the faucet off.
“Well,” she said reasonably, “this is unfortunate.”

Which did not answer anything, but did give Central 46 a reason to look frightened, and that was almost as good.

For a century, things were calm.
A hundred years later, one of the Shinigami stationed there encountered the reincarnations of the missing candidates during a battle with an eldritch horror that involved a machine gun, swords, swearing, and another Hollow was vomiting rainbow fists into the air like reality itself had finally snapped.
Karakura, as usual, was not having a normal day.
