It was just something about Ena. Well, everything about Ena really. She was so sweet, so considerate and patient, so unbelievably and effortlessly gorgeous. Her short brown hair was smooth and silky, her small hair braid done neatly and secured with an equally small ribbon. Her fashion taste was immaculate. Even on days when Ena didn't have the energy to dress up, or days when Ena had stayed up all night painting, her hair a mess and her pyjamas stained with acrylics; Mizuki just couldn't help but think how beautiful her best friend was.
Mizuki really should've been asleep by now.

Summary
Caught up in trying to not be perceived, Mizuki wasn’t paying enough attention to where exactly she was going; causing her to walk right into another person. Mizuki stepped back slightly, already clasping her hands together, “I—I’m so sorry! I wasn’t watching where I was going!”
Said person turned to her, he looked to be older, even if he was a tad shorter than Mizuki herself. He had short, curly purple hair, and similarly purple eyes that faded to blues. “It’s okay.” he answered, “I should’ve been more observant myself.”

When Mizuki and Mafuyu first meet, they don't entirely understand each other. As they grow closer, they decide that they'd like to try.

Summary
Unlike a lot of their friends, not everybody was so supportive of Mizuki and Mafuyu's relationship, or how they identified.
“Good girl, honor student, soon-to-be doctor” Asahina Mafuyu was now living as somebody else, the boy he truly was deep down, and pursuing his dreams, learning that his life shouldn't be decided by other people.
Mizuki was always painted out to be weird, different, strange. All she ever wanted was to be herself. Even though things went wrong, though she once ran, she was glad to be where she was now. Loving and being loved. Letting herself be loved.

Summary
Mafuyu wanted something more… action packed? He found it meaningless to keep attacking inanimate objects, as if they can really fight back. It would’ve been more beneficial to fight something… real. Something that can fight back. Part of Mafuyu itched for that action. Since he was young, he’d always been sheltered, only being permitted to do minimal things.

His mother wanted him to be Queen one day. Even as a child, Mafuyu didn’t want that, even if he tried to convince himself it was exciting. He’d watch out his window to the training grounds, where he’d watch knights battle and share sportsmanship. They all seemed so happy. Mafuyu wanted to be like that.

Mizuki stared blankly into her full-length mirror, she didn’t understand why the feeling was crawling back again, breathing sinisterly down her neck. It was sickly. Her chest hurt.
It had been a couple months since.. everything. Since Mizuki thought she’d do everybody a favour and disappear out of their lives. Since Ena acted as a light in the darkness, and embraced Mizuki close, with open arms, not ready to lose her precious friend. Something Mizuki was still trying to let herself believe.
