Summary
“Whoa, whoa, easy there, tiger,” Giulia said, pulling him to his feet. “Nobody said he ever liked Angelo. He’s still your best friend.”
“Yeah, but he might be someone else’s boyfriend,” he fumed.
“And you want that someone to be you?”
Luca blushed. “What? Giulia!”
She gave him a don’t-argue-with-me look. “You just ranted for like, ten minutes about how beautiful he is.”
***
Home for Christmas and about to turn seventeen, everything should have been perfect for Luca Paguro- except for the fact that his best friend Alberto now keeps flirting with a mysterious boy while Luca keeps falling more and more in love with the idiot. What could he have done, Silencio Bruno? Even Fate herself seems to be involved when they get snowed in their own underwater cave, alone. Completely and blissfully alone.
Luca tried not to think about the insinuations that came with that thought.

Summary
“Sit on the plank, and I’ll push you from behind.”
His friend looked suspicious. “Are you sure you aren’t just trying to catapult me into the water?”
Luca burst out laughing. “It’s a swing, ‘Berto! I learned all about in Portorosso. You sit on it, and you fly into the sky! It’s very popular with humans. Don’t you trust me?” he asked, feigning annoyance.
“Stop using those puppy eyes on me, geez,” Alberto teased. “You know I can’t resist it when you do that.”
Luca willed away his blush. “Hold on to the rope.” And Luca absolutely, resolutely did not look at the space on Alberto’s left wrist where his own heartmark was.
***
When Luca brings Alberto to their island to show him how to build a swing, he is determined to keep his feelings for his friend secret. After all, he'd been doing so for quite a while now. But he senses that the heartmark on his wrist, a visible symbol of his decidedly-not-platonic love for Alberto, might change everything. The only question is, will it be for better or for worse?

Summary
Oh, God, please let Alberto’s plan work, please let it work, Luca pleaded to any listening deities above, his nails digging crescents into his palm. Why wasn’t Alberto struggling? Why wasn’t he moving? The figure was nearing them now, and with one gloved hand, it plucked Alberto from the trap. Luca bit back a scream. His heart was thundering, waiting for Alberto’s signal, for a "follow my lead", for anything at all, but nothing came.
Alberto was unceremoniously shoved into a cage and hauled up by a hook onto the shadow of a boat above. The last Luca saw of him was the flash of reassuring green eyes that said, I’m okay, and Luca hoped to God that was true.
***
When Alberto, just about to discover his birthday surprise, gets kidnapped by an exotic poacher, Luca is devastated. Devastated and desperate enough to swim out into the sea alone at night, bruised and hurt, because just as with Ercole all those years ago, he knows that he can and will do anything for Alberto.
Now that he's finally coming terms to his feelings for his friend, he prays to Poseidon that it's not too late to tell him.

Classic hurt/comfort with a happy ending!

Summary
“He’s not an idiot,” Luca murmured absently, his mind already miles away as he unfolded his letter, eyes scanning the rows of handwriting so intently she feared he might actually bore holes in the paper.
“Okay, okay, calm down there,” she laughed, pulling him away from the cyclists coming down the path. “Come on, let’s go inside. His words aren’t going to disappear if you stop looking at that letter, you know,” she chided as he still refused to take his eyes off it.
Lovesick idiot.
***
Following Luca and Giulia's departure to school, Luca and Alberto consistently exchange letters while an amused Giulia watches on, aware of their oh-so-obvious pining for each other. Will the realisation of the parallels between their relationship and the story of The Little Mermaid be enough to push their relationship forward, or will Giulia have to meddle just a bit more?

Summary
He raps on Giulia’s door, then, and lets himself in quietly, warm golden light spilling out into the dark hallway beyond. “Giulia?”
She sets her book down, brows knitting together. “Luca?” She is in pyjamas; her hair is a fiery waterfall down her back.
“Have you ever heard,” he begins quietly, “of people coughing up flower petals? I read it in a book,” he adds hastily. “One of those fairytales.”
But then the sides of her cocoa-dark eyes crease into expressive brackets, and he knows she isn’t fooled. “Oh, Luca.”
***
It's been a month since Luca returned to Portorosso from school, a month since he started coughing up petals. Desperately in love with Alberto and convinced that his feelings aren't returned, he believes there is no cure. Not that Alberto would notice, preoccupied as he's been with the blonde girl Luca tries to tell himself he's not jealous of.
Luca Paguro has never been the type to be needed to be saved. But maybe this time, it's not about letting himself become weak, but rather finally letting himself be loved.

Summary
“I mean, the flowers and the ice cream were pretty obvious,” Alberto pointed out.
Giulia sighed. “Right, and since when have those two tricks ever worked for you?”
Since when had Alberto been trying to ask people out? Luca bit his lip. “I mean, those gestures could always be interpreted as platonic,” he said instead. “Beto takes me to the gelato place all the time.”
And those most certainly weren’t dates, no matter how Luca desperately wished they were.
***
Seventeen and struggling with his feelings, Luca returns to Portorosso for Christmas. Convinced that his affections for Alberto remain unrequited, Luca is doubly determined to help Giulia win over the girl she's infatuated with. His assumptions about his friend, however, are challenged when Alberto proposes a game of Twenty Questions.
Might being alone at Luca's house, the pictures on his bedroom wall and a strategically placed sprig of mistletoe change everything for them this Christmas Eve?

Summary
He looked up to see Alberto with his mouth wide open. “Um,” he said, a faint blush tinting his cheeks. “You look…nice.”
Luca felt his own face heating up. “Oh. Thanks.”
Next to him, Giulia chortled. “You look adorable, Luc.”
Reaching into the wardrobe again, she pulled out a tiny pair of platform shoes. “You’re wearing these,” she declared. “Oh, I missed playing dress-up!”
Luca sighed internally. “And here I thought you came out of the womb brandishing a sword or something.”
***
When a mishap with a piece of candy causes Luca to become doll-sized, he doesn't expect the consequences to include getting closer to Alberto. Living in Giulia's dollhouse and letting Alberto play caretaker, he gets something he hasn't had for a long time: his friend's complete and undivided attention.

Summary
There was the snick of a match as a candle flared to life, lighting up the interior of the treehouse. Alberto grinned up at him. “I figured we should make good use of those sixteen candles.”
He carefully stuck the candle into the cup- so that was what he took- and quickly lit up the others, placing them in a semicircle around the bed. With his back turned, Luca drank in the sight of his muscled back and arms. His hair, like Giulia’s, had grown long, but he kept it in a messy bun, the sight of which drove Luca crazy.
He swallowed, then hastily schooled his expression as Alberto turned around again with an exaggerated flourish. “All done!”
***
On his seventeenth birthday, Alberto throws Luca a surprise party, flirts with him in a candlelit treehouse, and some knots are finally untangled.

Summary
“You should see the dawn from here, it’s even better.”
“I’m sure,” Alberto says dreamily. “The view’s not half bad from the lighthouse either, especially in the mornings.”
“Still not skipping school for you,” Luca teases, and Alberto heaves a long-suffering sigh. “Yeah, yeah, all right. I’m changing your mind about that one of these days.”
Luca rather likes the sense of permanence that evokes, one of these days. It implies more days to come, stretching cornflower-blue into the distance.
***
Friendless, lonely and unwilling to admit it, Luca Paguro has been the heir to the mafia since he stumbled across the family secret at the age of ten. Eschewed by his schoolmates due to his status as criminal royalty, he has no social skills to speak of until he meets Alberto one day through a fence. They become fast friends despite Alberto's initial reservations about his family's wealth, but whatever sparks might have flown- and Luca's distant hopes for more- are quickly quashed when he's ferried off to Portorosso for his safety.
The truth is, he doesn't want the mafia or its associated wealth. He just wants the one person he was forced to leave behind.
