Summary
There are two paths before her, right now, in this moment, Jackie realizes with a startling drunk clarity. One, she turns and walks away, back to her life to become her mother. Two, she steps off this cliff, freeing her daughter, freeing her from becoming her mother, dying innocent. From this angle the choice feels brutally obvious. Jackie steps closer to the edge, staring down at the rocks and sea. She kicks a pebble over, watching it plummet, sinking into the water.
