Commissioner James Gordon greets Hotch with a grim handshake. ‘Grim’ seems an apt descriptor for anything to do with Gotham City—its crime rate, its air quality index, and its citizens. The Commissioner embodies the word. There are tight wrinkles by his eyes and dour lines around his mouth. Strong swathes of grey cut through his hair.
“I would welcome you,” he says, eyes flinty, “but my boys don’t want you here, and frankly, I doubt you’re prepared for what you’re about to get into. None of you ever are.”

Jason doesn’t know a lot about Gotham’s newest players. He’s been a little distracted sorting out his territory, and they haven’t made a move on Crime Alley or the Bowery yet. So it wasn’t at the top of his list.
But he knows the basics. He knows that there’s some sort of syndicate forming in Uptown, rallying behind the founder. Iron Man, he’d heard the leader was called, but not why. He’d heard more about Iron Man’s second hand, the shadow, the one his street rats call White Wolf with shaking voices.
White Wolf got sent out for cleanup.

Summary
Finding Katsuki is an accident—a day of boring lessons and pent-up curiosity and quick, repetitive bangbangbang’s from deep in the woods—but keeping him is entirely choice. There are many factors in this decision; none of them Katsuki’s opinion, but she thinks if she had to boil it all down to one reason, it would be this: he is only a little older than her, and Mei has never had a friend aside from Xiao Mei.
He does not look completely Xingese—his hair is lighter than anyone else’s, and Mei is much paler than his tan, and his eyes are a ferocious, unique red, but they slant like hers and isn’t there that light-haired, red-eyed desert nation to Xing’s west?—but he does not speak Xingese like a second language.
He does, however, use a wholly different dialect that seems more honorific-based and he still manages to sound ruder with than anyone Mei has ever met.
