Summary
“Everyone here is brilliant, and it’s hell.”
Edmund Vale has disappeared.
He worked in Civilian Transitions at the Turing Trust: the department responsible for turning children used by the state into officially free adults.
Mycroft Holmes makes the strategic mistake of sending Sherlock to investigate.
The Turing Trust is not exactly a boarding school for brilliant children. It is a semi-clandestine, state-funded institution full of unmanageable, traumatised, funny, dangerous minors who have been trained far too well for their age.
Sherlock expected a dirty political case. He did not expect Lena Voss.
A collision between Sherlock Holmes, a young woman raised by a state machine, Mycroft in the middle of an administrative disaster, John asking the inconvenient questions, and a building where everyone lies badly — except the children, who lie better.

Summary
At Baker Street, wonders sometimes have teeth.
Some fit inside an aquarium.
Others smoke at the window or sleep with a knife under their pillow. When Sherlock Holmes brings Lena Moreau to 221B, he insists it is a temporary, rational, and entirely defensible solution. Baker Street has already survived corpses, chemical experiments, desperate clients, and John Watson’s silences; surely it can absorb a twenty-year-old woman fresh out of a clandestine institution, carrying a cardboard box, several knives, and a very personal relationship with normality.
In theory.
In practice, Lena has no intention of becoming simpler, Sherlock has no intention of admitting he is happy, John has no intention of letting Baker Street reorganize itself without protest, and a case involving a missing aquarium reminds everyone that a beautiful creature is not always harmless.
Beauty draws the eye.
Teeth set the distance.Series
