To Shadow Milk, it was a brotherhood. As the Enforcer of Deceit, he had a role- As in, take jobs from the Don, get rid of stragglers, do the dirty work no one else wanted to do.

The cold shackles on his wrists and ankles burn into his dough.

It hurts.
He’s screaming in fury, trying to get out, to leave to be able to move.
To feel anything but the cold.
This.... this couldn’t have been it. Right?
How could the witches lock him up?
Why?
It wasn’t fair.
His breathing raggedy as he sobs, trying to breathe, to- to get air in his chest.
Trying.

In... and out.
His eyelids twitch. He continues to focus on breathing.
In, out.
The pattern is relaxing.
In and out.
On his 3rd deep breath he sighs, the scent of vanilla had always comforted him.
...
Vanilla?

He blearily blinks awake, careful not to wake the sleeping form next to him.
