Summary
For years, Josh was held hostage deep within Trench. Taken from everything he knew and forced to survive under the Bishops, Josh eventually becomes more than a prisoner.
He becomes a Torchbearer, not because he was chosen, but because he decides that if he can survive Dema, he can make sure no one else has to.When Josh finally returns home, he is alive, but changed. The years in captivity follow him everywhere; the memories, fear, scars, and knowledge of what happens to those who never make it out. Josh refuses to let that be the end of his story.
Tyler refuses to let him fight alone. So, to save Josh, he becomes Clancy.
What begins as Tyler trying to understand what happened to his best friend becomes something bigger; Dema takes shape, the Bishops gain names, and the Torchbearers become symbols of resistance. Josh’s survival becomes the foundation of a rebellion.
Josh carries the light so no one else has to live in the dark. Tyler becomes Clancy to lead them out.
Together, they create something Dema never expected. A way out.
Because there will never be another Josh. But there can be others who make it home, without the scars Josh carries.This is how the lore began.
