Summary
MJ had always known herself to be a forgiving person.
She’d forgave Ned more times than she can count during their four years at MIT and again as roommates since moving back to New York.
She forgave her parents for their unrealistic expectations put upon her when they dictated her future in high school, making it seem as though anything less than what they expected was a failure.
She forgave past boyfriends or flings for canceling last minute or flaking on her, too wrapped up in wanting to be liked or have a meaningful relationship to cut them off the way she should have the first time it happened.
So, in theory, it should be so easy to forgive Peter for what he’s done.
Unfortunately, it's not that easy.

Summary
In the months after his parents passed and he’d moved in with May and Ben, Peter remembers them doing everything in their power to make things as special as possible for him. It was always simple, like letting him stay up late or making a special treat for the three of them to eat, but it made him feel like maybe it really would be okay, and losing his parents wasn’t the end of anything ever feeling happy again.
He wanted to be a good dad. He wanted to make May and Ben proud, but more than anything, he wanted Nora’s childhood to be as memorable as his was.
So, against better judgment, and knowing MJ probably won’t be incredibly thrilled by his idea, he decides that with no school the following day, tonight can be one of those nights.

Summary
MJ really doesn’t know what she was thinking.
Asking Peter to move in with her in the interim seemed like an odd move at the time. She knew he didn’t live in a shack at least, but he’d mentioned his place needing some work, and the landlord had been eager to complete it. With the extra space now, she figured it was as good of a time as any to have Peter temporarily live with her so the landlord could do what he needed to do and everyone would be happy.
It was temporary, anyway. And even though she didn’t quite remember Peter, she knew that they had memories together, and Ned remembered him, so she felt safe. It also wouldn’t hurt to have him around in case she could remember him, too.

MJ asks Peter to live with her while Ned is away for work.

Summary
The thing about living in New York City is that everything is unpredictable.
MJ had grown up amidst the chaos of the Avengers. She felt as though the city was always in a constant state of rebuild, and there was never a zero percent chance they were under threat as long as at least one Avenger lived there.
News cycles were almost always interrupted by some sort of Avengers-level threat, or one of them causing chaos in at least one borough, and she’d grown used to it.
The evening Spider-Man is shot is the first time she remembers feeling like the entire city had come to a standstill.

Summary
The most frustrating part about having Peter in her life, MJ comes to find, is that the memories don’t instantly return.
She's come to terms with the fact that she may never remember who Peter is. She grieves it for a while, stuck somewhere between the anger and acceptance for weeks as she watches Ned navigate through it all beside her.
But that doesn't mean she can't begin to forge a new friendship with him in the aftermath.

“You’ve said before that you’ve lost someone through all of this, right?”
MJ pulls her knees up to her chest from her spot on the sofa, glancing at Peter as he flips through one of their million streaming services.
Peter pauses, looking up at her. “Yeah, my Aunt May,” He eventually answers. “She died a few years back because she was too involved with some things I was fighting,” he says softly.
MJ nods. She sketches in her book, watching Peter from the corner of her eye. Shifting, she focuses back on her book and speaks again.
“Tell me about her.”

Peter raps on the window, watching as she walks to open the window, letting him in.
“Are you guys okay? Where’s Ned?” he asks, looking around the apartment. MJ steps aside, letting him pass.
“Ned’s in his room. We’re both fine,” she says, shoving her hands in her pockets. “I remember who you are, Peter.”
Peter stops in his tracks, turning back to look at her.
"What do you mean you remember who I am, MJ?”
OR
MJ remembers who Peter is. She's trying to be okay about it.
