As the sun rises in the sky, Ronan drives back home breaking every speed limit, and the puppy barks joyfully. Ronan thinks they might just get along fine.
He feels less magnanimous about things later, as he’s walking upstairs quietly, trying to shush the puppy’s excited and curious yipping.
“Be fucking quiet,” he tells it gently. “We’re surprising Adam, okay?”

“Stupid how?” Adam asked, lips teasing the shell of Ronan’s ear, enjoying the resulting shudder.

Adam had not made it out of the trailer park and into New York City only to be intimidated by a bird of prey, either literal or human-shaped. He walked up to the guy and, trying to hide his accent as best he could, started: “Um, hello. I was wondering if you know what’s going on.”
Raven Guy stared at him. “Are you an idiot?”
Adam’s blood went up several degrees in temperature. “Pardon me?” he asked, struggling to keep a lid on the anger about to swell up.
“Well, let’s see, a fire alarm just went off,” drawled Raven Guy, sounding, if possible, even more bored and condescending than before, “And now we’re all down here… could it be that there’s – oh, you know – maybe a fire?”

Summary
Adam had walked into love with Ronan with his eyes wide open, fully aware of what he was signing up for. He knew that Ronan gave his heart away completely or not at all, and that when he did it, it was for good.
So, yeah. Adam knows. They just haven’t talked about it, because neither of them are very good at the talking thing, and because while Adam doesn’t doubt that he reciprocates the feeling, it’s a different thing altogether to say it out loud.

“Fine,” Adam rolled his eyes. “Now are you gonna stop being a big baby?” he held out his hand for Ronan to take. “We’ve been out here for ages. Let’s go inside, I’m cold.”
“Now who’s being a big baby,” Ronan shot back, but took Adam’s hand anyway. He couldn’t help the little electric thrill that went through him at the sensation of skin on skin. It had been almost a month now since he and Adam had gotten together, since their first kiss on Ronan’s birthday, and he still wasn’t used to the idea of this being offered so casually, like something he could just have. Because he could just have it now.
(Or: Emotionally Repressed But Well Intentioned Teenagers Learn How To Be better Friends To Each Other, and Adam and Ronan Physically Can't Stop Holding Hands).
