Summary
Pepper turns the plastic over in her hand, and even though she was already expecting it, her stomach still feels like its dropped to her feet. She tilts her head back for a few moments and stares up at the harsh white lights in the ceiling before composing herself and standing. She can’t help but to check the readout on the plastic one last time before sliding it back into its box, which promptly goes back into her purse.
The two lines on the readout were such a bright shade of pink that there’s no denying what they mean; they didn’t even appear to be even slightly faded.

Alternatively titled: Tony Stark has had enough of this media nonsense and he's going to put these rumors to rest.
It's early in the morning and Tony left a little while before to go downtown to the news station with Clint for a live appearance on Good Morning New York. Usually Pepper would be there with him, making sure he doesn't do or say anything stupid that could land himself—or her and the company—in hot water, but as of last night, they still hadn't come up with a way to make an announcement regarding the soon-to-be newest heir to Stark Industries, so she's staying home and having the girls over for breakfast instead, which she hopes will help ease her need to get out of the house and interact with other adults aside from Tony and FRIDAY. She's not entirely sure how much faith she has in Clint to keep Tony on track, so here's to hoping that nothing too awful happens on live television.

There's a vulnerable smile on Tony's face as he nods, his fingers anxiously tapping out random patterns on his knee. He's not used to this level of kindness, not from people who aren't Pepper, at least. He's unsure of what to say or do, his mind running in a thousand different directions all at once as he tries to focus and compartmentalize everything, so it's a little surprising to both him and Nat when he stands and wraps his arms around her in a thankful hug, which she at least has the decency to go along with.

Pepper has to snort at his comment. Out of all people to be complaining about dangerous drivers, Tony Stark should not be one of them. He can be one of the most reckless drivers she knows, but today is different, and she gets it. Reaching a hand up, she places it on his shoulder and squeezes and tells him to relax.
She has a feeling she’s going to be telling him this a lot over the next eighteen years.
