Summary
The world is dying. Rick understands that now and he's done what he can to keep those he loves alive and safe. But after accidentally wondering onto another group's turf, he realizes that it may very well be the end for them.
Why does it matter though? At the rate the world is going, nothing, not humans, not mutations, not animals, not plants, nothing is going to survive. Rick thinks they need a miracle if the world has any hope of surviving but he stopped believing in miracles ages ago.
Thankfully, it turns out what he needed wasn't a miracle but a savior.

Rick is intelligent, resourceful, charismatic, and a good person. Without the weight of his past memories, that shines through more clearly than in canon. I really like this! Wish the author put out more content, becsuse I would love to see how these new dynamics play out through future challenges.

He remembered this agony from when he’d been shot more than a year ago, before this apocalypse had started. The two men crumpled, the bullet having passed through Daryl’s chest before fragmenting into Rick’s. He turned his head to see Daryl struggling for his last breaths. Rick regretted the decisions he’d made that had brought them to this. As his vision faded around the edges and each breath became shallower and shallower his last thought was: “God, if only I had known then what I do now.”
