“How was your birthday?” Lance asks.
“Alpine made me tiramisu, your father here offered me a pretty good deal. It’s been fun,” Fernando’s grin shows off his teeth. Lance mirrors it. His dad looks between them and slowly backs away. He mimes a salute toward Lance and Lance’s grin goes even sharper.
“You like causing chaos, don’t you?” Lance guesses, walking in step with Fernando as they walk through the Aston Martin hospitality.
“You ready for that?” Fernando asks. He sounds genuinely curious.
“Born ready,” Lance replies. His eyes flick to Fernando’s lips, to the scruff around his jaw. He presses harder against his soulmark, feels the cool metal of the watch against the pad of his thumb.
Fernando laughs softly. His eyes dance. “I’ll see you out there, yes.”

Summary
The constant hate finally takes its toll. Lance has always carried it in silence, even as it slowly destroyed his once extroverted personality, turning him into a shell of what he used to be. The weight becomes too much after a particularly brutal weekend where he's publicly humiliated and jeered by the crowd during quali, ripped apart by the media, and criticized online to the point where he can't escape it. The other drivers have always assumed his quietness and introverted personality was arrogance, but when lance disappears after the race, they realize something is very wrong.
Mainly Fernando and Lance focused.
