This is more or less a 'recreation' of 'Your ghostly hands', yet the differences forbid me to say so.
Its more 'heavily inspired', although saying that feels wrong.
I was inspired, so I wrote.
If @Downto_TheWillow wishes for me to take this down, that is not a problem.

"Macbeth. My friend, my king, my enemy, but I never realised it when it mattered. The darkness to my light, though I was too late to see it."
Perhaps Banquo had always been meant to die, but he hadn't expected it to be like this. He hadn't expected Macbeth to be the one behind it.

They hold a mock-funeral turned wedding.

Summary
The ghost of Macbeth walks alone through the halls of his castle.
His footsteps do not echo off the walls as they did in life, however the ghostly silence follows him like a plague among peasants, and the cold air does not dissipate as he enters a room.
He walks through his courtyards and kitchens and bedrooms; he walks through doors and under archways. He contemplates the person he became, and the ghost he remains.
Power, he decides, is dangerous.

Summary
I'm probably not going to continue this unless I find the time to rewrite it. I wrote this whole fic a couple of years ago when I was still relatively new to writing long fics - and in my opinion, it really shows. Believe me when I say that most of the rest is nonsensical and mostly anticlimactic.
A summary of the original play:
- Macbeth hears a prophecy from the three witches.
- Macbeth, with the help of Lady Macbeth, kills King Duncan.
- Macbeth becomes King.
- He murders some more people; everyone rebels and he dies.
- The end.In contrast, this fiction explores the possibility of what would happen if Macbeth and Lady Macbeth's plans to kill Duncan were foiled. One plan comes after another, and they keep being prevented - by Malcolm and Macduff. Consistently saving Duncan's life without letting on to him or the others that the Macbeths are trying to murder him is tricky work, but surely nothing can go wrong. Can it?

Summary
The two of us behind the desk felt sacreligious, like all of Eden’s flaws were on display in front of us unknowingly. We both knew, deep down, this was not where we were meant to be, no matter how good it felt. Even worse, I couldn’t admit that I still wanted more than this. Where do you go once you reach the top of the mountain though? What about when the person you climbed up with is already making the trek back down?
Or, simply, a Kennedy era Macbeth rewrite where Vice President and Second Lady Macbeth plot the unsuspecting assassination of President JFK.
