Macbeth has been having trouble sleeping since the three weird sisters announced their prophecies to him. He already knew he was the Thane of Glamis, there’s already a Thane of Cawdor, and by no means is it possible he’ll become king in his lifetime. Despite the last two being so far off, he can’t help but feel drawn to the prophecies. Being king wouldn’t be bad whatsoever, who was to judge him then? No one. No one could judge him for how he ruled, or how he felt about Banquo.

This is a prequel to the original play, following a young Macbeth as he competes in a tournament organised by King Duncan to crown a 'King of Thanes'. The tournament is held in fun, but Macbeth, as the ambitious young man he is, takes it entirely seriously and undergoes somewhat of an ego-death, after losing to Banquo. Basically, this text explores the birth of Macbeth's slow-burn ambition.

History is (broadly) the same, but gay people is normal. Also there are witches. And dragons. And (sort of?) an overarching plot I am building up to. Now Malcolm is King, people assume they can kill him to become king- just like Macbeth did. However Malcolm is not as lenient and is rarely caught off guard. Macduff worries for the King’s safety and became Malcolm’s knight- his shield.
Malcolm deals with being a King and doubts of whether he can live up to his country, and his father’s, standards, and Macduff is there, once again, telling Malcolm that his traits are worthy for the throne.(C’mon that scene was not only funny but so…y’know?)

It’s literally just Macbeth. I didn’t change anything except put it in novel form.
Why? l've always had trouble understanding things when written in play format with only the dialogue for context. Whether it be Shakespeare or literally any other play, my brain is just like-
"no, screw you". So maybe out of stupidity, or sheer force of will, l've decided I'm gonna write Macbeth: the novel because I'm sure at least some other people can relate. I'm going for as similar to the play as possible, so there won't be a lot of extra fluff. I also modernized the dialogue a bit. Also this is my first time writing literally anything, so please be kind! -
