Below him lies a body, cold by now, but still beautiful. Her long, blonde hair obscures her face, and her hand’s outstretched, turning the water red as it flows through her thin fingers.
It’s Emily Kostich, of course. He’d recognize her anywhere, no matter what state she was in—dead being one of them, he supposes, though he’d never imagined a world in which he outlived her. The two faint pinpricks still visible on the side of her neck had made that world even more inconceivable for him, and yet here they are.
Brendan, human, alive, somehow. Em, undead and dead again, a stake driven so far through her heart he could swear it’s coming out the other side.
He needs to get her out of here.
