Summary
In the early 1900s, Lily Evans (spelt with a y and NOT Lilli) is an abandoned orphan, until she is accidently adopted by siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. Soon, she builds her way into the hearts and classrooms and trees of Avonlea.
Lily bonds quickly with boys Sirius and Remus, and is made fun of by Barty and Severus.
She is constantly annoyed by the most liked boy in class, James Potter, who calls her carrots. He loves teasing her, but he turns quiet when his remaining parent Fleamont Potter dies of sickness. Amidst fighting for the top grades and spelling bee contests and being the only orphan children in town, friendship blooms and before they know it, they are pen pals.
The girls however, it is difficult for Lily to fit in when she loves books and poetry instead of feathers and dresses. When Marlene McKinnon's house burns down one night, she volunteers to help her and shares a room with the saddened girl. Slowly and gradually, she is one of them. And there is nothing more beautiful than being surrounded by Kindred Spirits in a world of Octobers and poetry.

Her hair was in a messy ponytail, and she looked like the very epitome of causal, but he thought she looked exactly pulchritudinous. He hadn’t paid much attention to the way she looked, since they were always such good friends, but now, he thought she was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. He wouldn’t admit that to himself without a fight, though. In fact, he resisted his own opinion that he formed unknowingly. He battled himself and tried to diminish that thought into the nothingness.
“Anne looked over at him and intuited that he was entangled in his own thoughts. The distant look on his face said it all. ‘Gilbert, you alright?’ she asked.

Anne Shirley-Cuthbert had always been an extremely smart girl for her age. In Avonlea, but probably on the entire vastness of Prince Edward Island, girls were usually tremendously lazy, spoiled, vain and incredibly monotone – many times it didn’t depend on them, though, but on the family and society in which they were raised – while Anne was the most… unique pastiche of shades, moods and feelings that could ever be found in a human being, and Gilbert Blythe knew that.
Anne Shirley-Cuthbert was smart, but in that very moment, as he lied down on the flower field near Green Gables and the fire-headed young woman carefully placed daisies and lavender petals between his locks, as if they were a blossoming vase made for an exposition, and as she was totally absorbed into her incredibly hard effort, Gilbert believed her soul was still as fresh, young and free as it was when they first met in school, six years before.
