Lucien doesn’t say anything at first. Just exhales slowly, jaw tight as his gaze flicks away for a beat before looking back at your pitiful form. But then he steps further into the spray of the sprinklers.
“Come on.”
He offers you his hand, water dripping from his sleeves, his hair matted and dark against his forehead. He’s getting soaked too, but somehow still carries himself like none of this touches him. Like the rain answers to him, not the other way around.
“I’m taking you back to your dorm,” he says.
“I’m fine. I like the sprinklers,” you mutter, hugging your arms around yourself, wanting to wallow, to mope, to feel the heartbreak without anyone trying to fix it.

Lucien tilts his head, a slow, lazy smirk tugging at his lips. “Stop…?”
He acts coy like he doesn’t know exactly what you mean. Like he isn’t the reason you’ve lost many nights of precious sleep.
“Having sex with my roommate,” you spit out as you enter his room and close the door behind you. The air inside feels different and unbearably charged. You have the strange urge to pace, to move, but before you can, he takes a slow step forward.
