Viktor was certain his life was over after his medical practice and research collapsed around him. And then he found the lighthouse. And then Jayce found him.

Viktor reached the edge of the rocks and extended his hand down, hoping the man could see him and would reach out as well. The mirror at the top of the lighthouse swung around so the bright, warm light fell down onto them, shining over the back of Viktor so his shadow cast across the man's face. From this angle, Viktor could see the man was not entirely aware of what was going on. Still, he threw an oar up onto the rocks and locked eyes with Viktor.
"Mamá?" he asked, and lifted a weak hand to try and reach Viktor.
"No," Viktor corrected. "Give me your hand."

This close, Jayce could see his eyes focusing on each stitch, each nook and cranny of his skin. They were this vibrant color of amber, glowing gently like new found gold nuggets, and they skimmed over his body until they landed on his face. Jayce had been staring, so Viktor took on himself to stare back as he spoke.
“Do you understand anything I just said?”
Jayce managed to nod back, because he couldn’t trust his mouth with any more embarrassments. Viktor nudged his stool closer and helped Jayce sit up, still a bit laid back but just enough to feel more conscious. He had two beauty marks on his face, one under his eye and another right above his lips, and both moved when Viktor smiled softly and spoke again.
“Good. I’ll be right back with some water and food, let’s try to get you to eat something, alright?”
