Summary

Summary
Presentation is always a big deal, regardless of who was presenting.
However, it truly was something when a Madrigal presented- it was second only to their gift ceremony. Whenever a Madrigal presented, it gave great hope to those in the Encanto to shoot their shot and prove themselves worthy of becoming a mate to the magical family.

The day stretched on into the night, and so far Mirabel felt… fine. She didn’t feel queasy, her family’s comforting scents offsetting her anxiety. As she was escorted to her room for the night by her parents, she slowly felt her nerves creeping up as she still felt none of the tell tale signs. As she laid in bed that night, waiting for what may come, she prayed that she wouldn’t be the odd one out yet again. -

Mirabel loves Madre Sombra. She loves her tower and the peace that comes with it, spending her days embroidering and sewing her outfits from the bolts of cloth she gets for her birthdays. She can’t imagine a better place to call home.
But, she longs to see the butterfly lights from outside her tower, and despite every time she’s been shut down, she never loses that dream. So, she takes the first chance when two girls break into the tower while running from murderous thieves. Besides, she’ll return in a few days.
No harm, no foul, right?
Or so she thought…As the heiress of the Encanto, Isabela is monitored by guards for her own safety. Her only escape is being a chaperone for Dolores and Lord Mariano, but even then, it’s not enough to truly have a moment to be real.
So, when thieves steal Mirabel’s crown, Isabela and Dolores take the chance to return it. But, when they break into a tower to hide from said thieves, they encounter a strangely familiar girl who wants to attend the lantern festival.
Despite her reservations, Isabela agrees to it.
No harm, no foul, right?

Summary
It was normal for Mirabel to avoid public functions. Alma noticed that she was uncomfortable in crowds, which could be because she didn’t fit in much with the family.
But, her absence in the family photo celebrating Antonio’s new gift bothered Alma greatly, even if she didn’t let on about it. Mirabel had taken him to his door, and she deserved to be beside him to celebrate this new miracle.
So, why was she absent here? It didn’t make sense. Why would she draw attention to herself and then avoid a picture capturing the moment Antonio was blessed?
Alma wasn’t going to let this slide. She would get to the bottom of why Mirabel stayed out of family functions and pictures.
Even without some magic gift, she was still a Madrigal. Surely, she knew that.
Right?OR
Alma notices Mirabel wasn’t in the family photo. While correcting this error, she finds out there’s more underneath the surface of an absence in a photo.

She thinks that maybe she did not get one big gift, not like her two older sisters, but she's sure she's gotten something. Her family never sees it, so Mirabel stops trying.
And then, when she is eleven, a man named Albus Dumbledore invites her to come to Hogwarts.

Some notes. IDK when time period wise Encanto is set, but it could be that the war Abuela runs from happens around 1890-1902, so Mirabel could very well be about 11 when Tom Riddle is at Hogwarts. That's what we're going with. And Mirabel goes to Hogwarts because Hogwarts the school and Casita the house are friends, but that's another story. -

“I love you!”, He blurted out suddenly. “You don´t need a gift…”, he stammered, trying to reassure his Mirabel somehow. He hated the way Mirabel´s eyes had gone all dull, he hated that his favourite cousin, basically his twin didn´t get to be happy. “You don’t need a new room; you can just share my room. It´s so big, my bed is huge we can easily share. It´s lonely alone anyway.” He ranted almost desperately; he needed her to smile.
“Thank you, Milo." Tears were falling down her eyes, the first time that night she let go and simply cried. Camilo was only able to hold her close…not knowing what to do when getting the parents wouldn´t help. Because it wouldn´t, he told himself firmly, aunt Julieta and uncle Augustin hadn´t been able to comfort her. He would do it! He could do it! He was her older cousin; he would take care of his Mirabel!
From this moment on it was always Camilo and Mirabel, them against the world. This would only change the day Antonio was born.
