Instead of healing any cracks, it was as if they were just rubbing salt into a slowly growing wound. The connection was still there, it would always be. It was just more fragile and tense now. Things that used to be natural, things they used to do without thinking now had them hesitating. They asked for confirmation where it had never been necessary before, with things they used to trust each other blindly in. That content, peaceful summer type of love slowly got replaced with tense, too heavy acts of what used to be love.
Summer makes room for fall, if you will, just before the icy winter comes.
