Summary
There is something about being in the same room as his father that really impedes his ability to do an impression of a functioning being, Jean finds.
Granted, it had been tenuous at best before he even had to make the trip to DC, because no one had thought to bother to mention that a crucial part about his parents’ extradition for the trial necessitates that they be physically present in the country they are being tried in. As it stands, Jean is barely pushing himself through the minimum required to stop Davis from removing him from the court.
And then someone throws a brick through his living room window.

Summary
“I think I’ve got the timeline now,” James says. “The previously unexplained hospital stay happened several days after Kevin approached us about the transfer. My guess is it took a bit of time out of the… environment… of the Nest for his body to really start feeling the high sugars. And with the state of his injuries, I can’t imagine discerning one pain from another was possible.”
“It’s insane. Everything about it makes perfect sense and none at all. I keep trying to find the words but the only thing coming to my mind is just ‘what the fuck’ on repeat?”
“The more I find out about Edgar Allen, the angrier I get,” Rhemann confesses. “I’m just relieved that Neil dragged him here when he did.”
“Jean’s not,” Jeremy says immediately. “He has creatively threatened his death multiple times.”
“No, I don’t suspect he is,” James says sagely. “But it doesn’t matter, because he’s here to be angry about it.”

Summary
The frustrating part about it is that he almost makes it to the end. They’re inside of the two minute warning, and the remaining time is a formality at this point. Utah has no hope of closing a fifteen point deficit, and Jean is actually shocked that he hasn’t been pulled yet to give the sophomores some more experience on the court.
All Jean knows is that one second he is passing the ball halfway across the court to Min, and the next he is staring at the bright lights of the Sunshine Court, and the blurry orbs dance slowly in front of his eyes, shining so brightly that it burns. Jean thinks he knows what this is already, and he rolls over onto his knees to lessen the brightness, and when he feels nausea roll in his stomach and a firework of pain explode in his forehead, it’s confirmed.
He has hit his head, and there is no way that he isn’t concussed.
(alternatively titled: jean tries to hide a concussion and it definitely goes well)

Summary
“You’ve got James Rhemann,” Rhemann answers his office phone, still staring at the new play design that Jimenez is trying to pitch him for twelfth time this season.
“Hi, James, it’s Cara Schwartz from the Kayleigh Day Foundation,” a voice greets, and Rhemann is immediately planting his feet on the ground. He has only gotten a call from Cara Schwartz a handful of times in his career as a head coach, and he never expected one two years in a row. “I think you know why I’m calling.”
“I hope I do,” Rhemann says. “Who’s a finalist?” He has several fifth years that he thinks are worthy of a nomination for the highest award a player in collegiate exy can receive, but his heart knows who this call is for.
“Jean Moreau,” she answers. “I’m calling you because Coach Moriyama has already attempted to decline the nomination on Jean’s behalf, but the only person who can decline it is Jean himself. Coach Moriyama assured me that the signature would be sent over, but I figured I would check with you first, given that you’re the closer contact for Jean.”

Summary
It all spirals with a press conference. To be fair, Jeremy should have predicted this, and he blames himself for not being more on-top of the developing problem. The problem is that he’s been too distracted because he cannot stop saving every single thirst trap of Jean he finds on tiktok.
Jeremy rarely goes in the comment section of anything related to exy or his team—he knows firsthand just how ruthless sports fans can be. But he has been incurably curious in regards to Jean. With the effort from the social media team, he has gathered quite the fanbase, and Jeremy cannot even pretend that he is not a part of it. The clips of him warming up before a game, or rolling out his thigh, one leg hitched over a foam roller, or of him pulling up a sweaty practice jersey to wipe his face only to expose his newly-defined abs, or smiling on the court, or dousing his face with water have been doing things to Jeremy, and he can’t even be ashamed at how much of his feed has become Jean.
The problem has been the comment sections.

Summary
The imminent return to Evermore has him jumping at shadows, and he is already at the end of his rope. Every ounce of energy every single day goes to pretending to be what is required of him—he has to override years of training (away, not towards) to perform adequately on the court, to uphold the Trojan standard, and he has to pretend that while he does it he is a functioning human and not simply a discarded toy too broken to be played with anymore.
It’s why he spent his time in Palmetto when he could walk watching every single Trojans interview and game he could, so he could memorize their speeches and their strategies and their game play so that he would not be a burden. Jean knows what he owes his new masters. And he will not fail.
(Or, Jean tries to fake it until he makes it at USC)
