A fic detailing a sort of AU i've been cooking up in my head: what if the whole Rafta/Nestor/Eugene debacle ended up panning out.. differently? this isn't super duper romantic but is important for the section around the end.
note: in case your scratching your head at the tags, i wrote Eugene and Nestor as tfem, Eugene identifying as Butch and Nestor as Femme. Eugene is referred to with He/She pronouns, while Nestor by She/They, and both by feminine signifiers (such as Woman, Miss, etc)

Now, Sophie lives with her neighbor Sam and friends. Sam said he was going to help find her mom, but when she hears that he’s going to the basement, nowhere near where her mom went searching, she decides to take matters into her own hands.Or: Sophie, Joel and Rattrick(rat baby) go on adventure to find Harriet.

And then the dreaded "it" happens and throws Hellen's neatly tied mental working order off kilter.

Was Leigh planning to kill her? Most likely. Hellen wasn’t necessarily worried. She could easily defend herself if need be. Although the knowledge didn't do anything to relieve the gnawing anxiety that at any moment she may have to fight for her life.
An exasperated groan caught her attention and she turned to see Leigh laying on her back, sprawled across the floor. “When are you going to be done with those STUPID dishes already?”
