"Gon thought they were running from an awful lot of things; running Killua’s family, running from the new Phantom Troupe, running from themselves. In truth, it was getting to Gon. But it wasn’t the running from the wannabe Phantom Troupe or from Killua’s family that was getting to him. There was something else he was running from, and so was Killua. Something unspoken."
After Killua and Gon seperate, Killua goes on to spend a few months with Alluka while Gon spends a few months with his father. However, Gon quickly realizes he missed Killua too much and so the two of them reunite. With Killua's family, and also a new wannabe Phantom Troupe after them, Gon, Killua, and Alluka jump from hotel to hotel every night as they run away together.

Killua tried not to look at his mouth when he smiled. Tried not to notice how the fiddle softened for a moment into something sweeter, how the air from the door whispered past their skin, cold and clean and full of stars. Gon’s fingers were still in his, anchored. Killua looked down at their hands.
This was stupid.
But it was real.
Here in this moment, even with the monsters outside and the ghosts they never talked about, Gon was real. Bright and stupid and shining. And he was dancing with Killua like the end of the world didn’t matter. Like maybe, just for tonight, it didn’t.

When Killua finished, he noticed that tiny wells of a strange blue appeared on Gon's aura. He had never seen such things happen, he wasn't sure what it was. Gon sniffled quietly, rubbing his eyes to clear his sight. Tears! Killua had completely forgotten that people cry. His stomach did a quiet somersault as he leaned in to clear Gon's face of tears. His eyes had to search for the wet spots but soon enough he brushed the tears away.
