Summary
Four years after the climatic battle with the Chimera Ants and Gon's rebirth, Killua is hurting. Trauma still lingers within him from all that he experienced, and he hasn't seen Gon since they departed at the world tree, choosing instead to travel and care for Alluka. What will happen when Gon can't take their separation any longer and seeks Killua out himself? How will the pair deal with the unresolved issues between them, the unspoken feelings, or the resurgent threats that aren't quite done with them yet, even after all these years...

Summary
Killua would like to think of himself as a reasonable person. He can be smart when it matters, when he has the time and energy to think things through. So no, he's not stupid enough to think this whole arrangement could end in anything but a mess– most likely, one caused by Killua himself.
But when their house got destroyed in a storm, Gon had offered —demanded— that they stay with his family for a little while. Killua knows he should've said no; but keeping his sister safe is way more important than his own fear of accepting help.
So he's here now. However messy this whole situation might end up for him —because he knows better by now than to assume Gon's family won't end up inevitably getting tired of him— he's here, and he found a way to keep his sister safe and her life as normal as possible, and he forces himself to be satisfied with that.

Or: After Killua's and Alluka's house in Whale Island got destroyed during a storm, he forces himself to accept Mito's offer to stay with the Freecss for a little while.
The hardest part is that he doesn't understand why Mito is being so kind to him.

Killua had been enjoying his very unproblematic time with his sister. But after an encounter with a young boy changes all of her priorities, Alluka becomes a suave romantic on an epic journey to capture the heart of her and Nanika’s first crush. So Killua does what any self-respecting cool older brother would do – he settles them down in the dumb small town this kid lives in, gets a house next to the object of her affection’s house, enrolls her in the same school, and does his very best to give Alluka the normal life she deserves.
This also requires Killua to make a great and lofty sacrifice. In an attempt to appear “normal” and not raise any red flags, Killua has to go to school. Ugh. Killua swears this is karma for trying to become a well adjusted, emotionally stable person.
Oh, and Killua accidentally joined the mafia, but he’s kinda cool with it because it would piss off his family more than anything to know that he joined an “inferior” organization with the worst assassins he’s ever seen.

Alluka decides that her calling in life is to be a mafia wife – Nanika enthusiastically agrees. Her brother can deal with all the little complicated details of that for her. She’s sure he wouldn’t mind. -
