Never, in all his Spirals, had the Drifter ever found Humor. Maybe the Orokin author of his favorite "Tales of Duviri" storybook simply didn't appreciate the art of a good joke. Maybe he was, as Teshin often said with that wry smile, merely a sarcastic little shit.
For the first time in centuries, he smiled so broadly his cheeks hurt.
Maybe some of Mathila's mad happiness was rubbing off on him after all, because despite dying day after day in futile attempts to leave, now that he finally could, he wanted to stay and make his make-believe kingdom a better place.

Erra survives the new war- he's injured and decides to still follow the one who made him change his plans, the Drifter. An enemy turned ally, and an enigma. He doesn't know where he's going, or if he will survive his injuries, but he plans on trying anyway- he had his people to save. But for that, he needed to recover. Task easier said than done.
