"I hate you" Wilbur stated, all too blunt and uncaring.
There was a predictable pause in Ghostbur's enthusiasm, and Wilbur dared to tilt his head, to glance at the person next to him.
Ghostbur stared down at their blue friend, fingers stained in the same dye that trailed them everywhere they went.
Then, their hands continued moving, trailing through fluffy wool, and Wilbur scowled.
He never did care for that sheep, even when Tommy had insisted on it at his revival.
"That's alright. You're allowed to hate me" Ghostbur said, voice not quite joyful, but neither was it filled with the sorrow or sadness that Wilbur expected.
It sounded strangely like acceptance.
"And, just between you and me, I kind of hate you too."

And Wilbur, because his tongue is looser nowadays, dumbly speaks up.
"You know, considering-" Wilbur cuts himself off, gesturing vaguely towards the ghost.
Ghostbur's brows furrow, squinting over at Wilbur before turning back to the Shrine.
"... Considering what?" Ghostbur inquires, a genuine confusion that Wilbur is surprised that anyone but a child could pull off.

“Wilbur?” Ghostbur speaks out of nowhere and squeezes his hand, “What flower is that?”
He points towards a single blue flower that stands lonesome in the valley.
Wilbur sighs, “It’s a cornflower.”
“Oh,” he responds, “What does it represent? Ooo, I hope it’s a nice meaning! It looks very beautiful.”
“Well, it kind of does have a nice meaning. It represents a positive hope for the future. It's supposed to remind us of the beauty of nature— or, something like that.”
“Aw!” Ghostbur coos in delight. “I like it! It’s my favorite flower.”
“Pffft,” Wilbur snorts at his reaction. “Your favorite flower changes like, every week!”
“No it does not!” It does, actually, but he would never admit it. “This one is special, I swear! It has a lovely meaning.”

Wilbur and Ghostbur are twins who have lived in an orphanage majority of their lives. That changes when a family of three show up, taking them in.
Ghostbur wilts in his side of the garden of self identity, and he watches the plants and bushes turn to mush. Wilbur can only watch and wonder why, while he also finds himself.
They discover themselves, and gardenias bloom.
