Summary
The Hyperforce series but Mandarin never fell to Xan and the Dark One's influence. This is going to be an interesting ride, folks.

(One thing I wanted to mention early on is the incident in Snowbound is very different in this AU. Here Nova was in the middle of a standard, single monkey training session. Mandarin was observing in the control room. Unknown to either party, a connector in the training room's temperature control unit malfunctioned; the thermostat read nominal while the true temp dropped like a stone. Nova became angry when she struggled to reach her highest level on the Sim, not really realizing it was due to the temperature change. The fluctuation between the outside and her inner temperature damages her body's thermostat and causes the explosion. )

Summary
After being believed long dead by the Hyperforce, Gibson inexplicably appears twenty-seven years in the future, after the war has been lost, and after the planet has frozen over into an arctic wasteland. What remains of the Hyperforce and the city's survivors live on the fringes, struggling to survive while Valeena apparently has free reign to do what she wants, slowly sucking the life out of Shuggazoom City.
Gibson resolves to finish a battle he should've been there for, although it might be too late for a planet in desperate straits. Hovering over his efforts is the mystery of how he travelled so far into the future, and how it will effect Shuggazoom.

Rory is the Social Worker assigned to Chiro. He's upbeat and kind, and is very fond of the monkeys. He doesn't really believe in the prophecy, but can't deny the presence of the shambling undead in his life. For a man who isn't religious, the whole thing is really throwing him for a loop.Shugazoom''s Social Services Department has been struggling for twenty years. The war on Cete has displaced so many children; since Shugazoom lacks a major military, given they are a neutral trade planet, they do their best to help by sending food and medicine to the afflicted, as well as evacuating the orphans and displaced children. This has lead to the orphanages being overcrowded and understaffed. If the situation had been normal, Chiro probably wouldn't have been allowed to live with the monkeys. But being things are the way they are, the government to just shrugged the talking monkey thing off and moved on.
Chiro is very fond of Mandarin. Though the orange monkey is short tempered and gruff, he has never called Chiro any of the frankly horrible things that adults have called him over the years. He may be foul-mouthed and impatient, but he's surprisingly quick to dismiss Chiro's natural childhood follies and never, ever even so much as threatens to hit him. He's an adult male in a position of power, but uses it to help others, not to harm. All these things are very new to Chiro, and he's becoming paternally attached to his father figure's grump of a boyfriend.
