Just another of Xid and Sylvia's weekly cookouts, with a dash of friends supporting each other. Sometimes explicitly, and other times not.
They worked in companionable silence for a while, and Xid began to hum, trying to find a good tune. Nothing too melancholic, nothing too peppy, either – this would be a hero’s ballad like no other! The song she’d always wanted to write.
But Xid had been a musician for as long as she’d been alive, so she could make out when she was missing something in the accompaniment department. Namely, the rustling feathers and the soft snoring hoots of a snoozing owl.
