Summary
After Peru, Sentinel Jim Ellison is judged no longer fit for military service and undergoes reconditioning so he can be sent home and re-enter the workforce as a police Sentinel in the Major Crimes department of Cascade, Washington. He and his new Guide at Major Crimes, Carolyn Plummer, don't quite click. Though honestly, he makes it a point not to get any friendlier with his Guides than absolutely necessary, so that doesn't surprise him.
All it takes is a bad day to get to know someone more than he really wants to and today is shaping up to be one of the worst.

After everything Jim and Blair had been through with Alex Barnes and in Sierra Verde, Blair has kept a close eye on the Sentinel, too close in Jim's opinion. Now Blair's going on a trip and Jim is looking forward to having some time to himself. But he doesn't realize that he's still far from being done with the repercussions of both his experiences in the Sentinel temple, and the moment when he almost lost Blair.
