Manuel L. Quezon adjusted his gloves and surveyed the group, noting with a flicker of amusement the reluctant frowns of the older men.

Manuel coughs. Then, despite himself, laughs; how pathetic is he, to be felled by the one thing he swore never to give in to? In his desperation, he can do nothing but laugh— or try to, anyway. It comes out a little strangled and he quickly tries to cover it up by clearing his throat.
Of course, that only makes things worse when what’s lodged itself there in the first place seems to double in size and bile, pushing its way up his wind pipe until he can’t stop it anymore. He coughs into his fist. Once. Twice. A sharp pain lances down his chest as he does, one that takes his breath away, and before he knows it, he’s wheezing, clutching at his ribs with the desperation of a drowning man, flailing on land while his lungs and his heart drown in a sea of blood and flower petals.
It hurts. Gods, does it hurt.
Or in which Kamahalan Manuel Luis Quezon of the Kingdom of Tondo catches himself some feelings. And a bad case of Hanahaki.
