“Bravo, bravo!” cried Tobias, clapping his hands at Tony’s stunt. “You, Mr. Wonder, are a natural performer as well as a brilliant wizard. It thrills me right down to my under-shorts whenever I witness your wand-work. Class, I do hope you follow his example. Here is a young man who puts his ten inches to good use!”
“There’s probably a better way to say that, but I’ll take the compliment,” said Tony.

What Tony notices, though, is the eyeliner laced with glitter, the hair spiked up into distinct points and the nail polish in fluorescent purple. He feels a flicker of self-satisfaction, but also something deeper, lacing it and making it sting a little.
Tony Wonder experiences a rare moment of shame.
