Last rays of the sunset were shining over the steep sides of Dragonmount. Down, down, below Tower grounds were dark, only the Ogier architecture shimmered in the half-light.
Tar Valon's seemed peaceful, but there were cracks.
Aes Sedai walked in the colorfully tiled corridors of Tower, Warders practiced, with swords, Novices and Accepted did their duties and lessons as ever, but still there was change in the very fabric of Tower.
The Wheel had turned, a new thread had been spun, ta´veren´s walked in the Westlands.
The long-awaited time had come, Dragon, Dragon had been proclaimed across in the banner over the Watchers as it had been written.

He and Moiraine had not spoken since she had returned, the chasm between them so deep that he doubted they could ever overcome it. He had argued that she would refuse to see him, that someone, anyone, would have a better chance.

Summary
The first time Mat and Rand ended up in bed together was two weeks after the fall of the Stone of Tear and it was, without a doubt, Perrin's fault.
The trouble was that Mat's plan had worked — drinking with Rand and reminding him of the Two Rivers had done him some good, had lightened the shadows around his eyes, and made him look more like Rand and less like the Dragon Reborn. So it made sense to do it again.
And Perrin kept not showing up. He always had a good excuse, afterwards, but Mat figured he knew the real reason. Perrin had fallen in love, and he found his ladylove infinitely more interesting than he found his old friends from back home.
So Mat and Rand kept falling into bed together. It seemed easier each time it happened, less time passing between the first drink of the night and the first kiss. It was good practice anyway, he told Rand one of those early nights, which had made Rand laugh — actually laugh, not just barely smile — and kiss him.

Mat had been sleeping in inns or in cabins on boats, for most of his trip to Tear. Rand looked like he'd spent it in the woods the whole way. Mat hurried over to Rand and reached out to pat him down, make sure he wasn't hurt-
-paused with his hands not quite touching Rand's shoulders.

Yet it was hard to be scared of Rand when he looked like a bedraggled puppy. "What are you doing here?" he chided, and he forced himself to touch Rand's shoulders. It didn't feel any different than it would have before he knew the truth.

Instead of Moiraine who finds Rand, Mat, & Nynaeve, it's Liandrin. Panicked at being found by an unfamiliar Aes Sedai, Rand accidentally creates a gateway and he Travels through it with Mat & Nynaeve.
Whatever was wrong with Mat… it itched at Nynaeve to admit it, but it might be beyond her knowledge to heal him. Yet the thought of telling Moiraine that she’d found the boys rubbed her wrong. Mat could barely speak most times, but Rand spoke clearly enough and he was scared spitless that any Aes Sedai might learn what Mat was. She couldn’t be the one to betray those boys; couldn’t bear the thought of seeing Mat get his power ripped out of him the way that Logain’s had been.
This was originally several ficlets, which are collected together as chapters here in order to fit better with the style that the rest of the series has developed. The ficlets are still all on AO3, just separated out into the (completed) series also named tairen holiday.
