"Who the hell would be out in this?”
Lightning cracked across the sky, followed by a loud rumble of thunder, and while it wasn’t dark out, that plus the car headlights did give the two people in the car a better glimpse of a figure striding down the sidewalk further up the street.
“Someone would, apparently,” Alejandro Vasquez commented, not catching the way Tony abruptly sat up in his seat due to keeping his eyes on the road.
“Hey, slow down, would you?” Tony murmured, “I think I recognize them.”
Raising an eyebrow, Vasquez did as requested, pulling the car to a halt on the curb. Tony rolled his window down to call out.
“Allie! Allie, is that you?”
In the gloom of the storm, Vasquez could just make out a girl around Tony’s age drenched from head to toe come closer to the car.Alejandro Vasquez could have never imagined picking up a drenched kid off the side of the street would lead to meeting a man and his niece who would quickly worm their way into his life, but apparently, fate decided that's exactly what should happen.
