Stanley was once known as a troublesome engine who rode roughly and often came off the rails. He was brash and rude, and as punishment the Manager of the Mid-Sodor Railway had him turned into a Pumping Engine. It turns out the reason for some of his accidents was that he was badly converted from his old gauge to the Mid-Sodor Railway’s gauge – a fact none of the engines had been aware of. But now, Stanley has been found… and Duke does not know what to do with this information.
