Horror and grief overtake the Skarloey Railway as the little engines are spirited away one by one. Fed up with living in fear and desperate to bring home the engines he’s come to love as siblings, Duncan joins a rescue mission to save the stolen engines and bring the engine-napper to justice.
Meanwhile, hiding in a secret shed in Knapford is a certain small, green tank engine who has lost too many friends. When his beloved controller is accused of being involved in the horrific crimes, he swallows his terror and makes a decision. Either he will prove his controller's innocence, keep his best friend, the only one he has left, safe, and bring his family home, or he will die trying.
