Summary
Emily came downstairs to the smell of something delicious baking.
She hadn’t had the greatest dream in the world (okay, it was probably closer to a nightmare), and had started roaming the halls to get her mind off of it. Her wandering feet had led her down to the mentors’ lounge. In all honesty, she didn’t come here all that often, as she wasn’t close (at all) with any of the other victors. She didn’t have any reason to socialize with people who had never seemed interested in her before.
But it was nighttime and she was reasonably sure no one would be there. She was quickly proven wrong.

Summary
Mary Ann held her breath as the small slip of paper was unfolded and read out for the crowd to hear.
She found she couldn’t let it out when her name was read aloud.
The world closed in around them. Suddenly there were heads turning to look their way and cameras swiveling to find their face. They felt choked, claustrophobic in a way they had never been before. It took them a second to realize the clearing rested in silence, with everyone waiting for them to stand up and head to the front. Sorrowful looks passed their way that somehow seemed disingenuous. He began to walk through the crowd that, thankfully, parted for him and his way up was mostly undisturbed on the outside as his mind panicked on the inside.

"Ernest you're literally so bad at this." Oscar grabbed the needle from out of his hand. "You're going to kill somebody doing it like that, probably yourself at that."
"I'm doing it great, actually," Ernest said defensively. "See, look, the fabric is together, isn't it?"
To illustrate his point, Ernest picked up the cloth he had sewn together and tugged on opposite ends of the seams. It held for only a moment before ripping down the middle leaving loose thread in a mess on the floor. Ernest stared at it, puzzled, while Oscar let out a laugh.

HG isn’t really sure why he’s here.
Not, like, here on earth, obviously, because that question is easily answered with quite a lot of guilt and regretted decisions, but here at this party.
Maybe he’s just here because there’s nowhere else to go. He feels trapped, stuck in some limbo. His mind has recovered from actively anticipating his own death every day. Nothing feels right and so if some bright lights and loud music can make him feel securely planted on the earth, he doesn’t know if there’s anything better to do. A party isn’t what he’s looking for, but he goes anyway. He doesn’t know what he’s looking for. Maybe some sense of normalcy, but he doesn’t know what to look for or where to start his search.
So here he is, walking through the gardens of a party he doesn’t care to be at.

Summary
Ted groaned as he pulled himself out of the flaming wreckage. He was…admittedly grateful that Paul had stopped that crazy hive zombie from shooting them but he was allowed to complain a little but since it had then shot the top of the helicopter sending the four of them hurtling down to the ground. Ted didn't know what had happened to the zombie, but he hoped it hadn't survived the crash.
Speaking of surviving the crash. Where was Paul? (Oh, and the crabby barista from Beanies.)

Techno felt a little like he had been hit over the head, “My… polar bear?”
The kid nodded assuredly, “Yep! And in my picture books there were stories about an ice magic guy who had a pet polar bear, so I realised you’re the same person! And then I saw you walking your polar bear so I realised that you lived nearby so then I came to find you!”
“…Polar bear?” Techno repeated, staring faintly.
The kid smiled, “Yes! There, behind you!”
Techno turned to look at Steve, who was definitely not a polar bear. Techno was like, a hundred percent sure that he was a dog.

Techno is trying to stay under the radar as an immortal with ice powers, and he thought he managed. Until a small child knocks on his door, fully aware of his powers and asking Techno to help decorate his house so that he could cheer up his brother for Christmas.

Summary
Heaven seemed empty to Michael. Well, it was always empty. But it seemed especially so. It was quiet. Subdued. Missing something.
There was no ever-looming administrative presence. No sound of dress shoes clicking across the polished white floors, no booming voices commanding on the next step of the Great Plan. No tailored suits or matching white tie. No authoritative Archangel. No Gabriel.
She didn’t like the fact there was something nagging her constantly. She was supposed to be all business and no doubt. She hadn’t the time for random memories to crop up and interrupt her plans. The Great Plan (or whatever it was they were doing now that Armageddon was all for naught) wasn’t to be slowed just because she happened to be thinking about certain things.
