Summary
“If you're so good, why are you still here? Why didn’t you go back with the army?” Sticky asked.
Because Burakh said ‘stay’ that night in the Broken Heart, Daniil thought indignantly. Because Artemy Burakh is an impossible man to refuse.
Daniil had lost everything. Artemy had gained more than he ever expected. They take things day by day.

Summary
The Polyhedron falls. So does Daniil Dankovsky.
The Polyhedron had fallen, dashed to pieces upon the unforgiving steppe, along with his hopes and dreams of a utopia. Without Thanatic or the Polyhedron there would not be one now, at least not within his lifetime. So he fell too, into the Stamatin’s twyrine and the comforting numbness it brings.
But then Burakh had asked him to stay, for some reason. And for some other, he actually agreed. There’s nothing left for him in the Capital anyways, besides disgrace and a disappointed father. And perhaps a noose from the Powers-That-Be.

Summary
Is it gay to triage your colleague? I mean you’re literally putting your hand inside another man.
Is it gay to softly speak the syllables of an oppressed people’s language while your colleague smiles, plague shutting his organs down one by one?
I mean you literally have another man’s Tongue in your mouth. -

Summary
Water is like blood. It flows within the earth and escapes through her wounds, spilling in rivers. The essence of life, the thread that binds an udurgh; it all ends in the ocean. Artemy has seen the ocean once, which is more than nearly everyone who lives in the Town-on-Gorkhon. The waves were black and freezing and roared like his pulse in his ears, and he fell asleep in the sand. Murky dreams of the ocean, at night in the Silent House.
The Tower has fallen. The Town suffers a sea-change. Artemy wonders what it all means; Sticky wonders what comes next; Murky wonders what she’ll become. Closure is never complete, and it is a harsh winter. -

Summary
How long has he been digging out this stupid hole? One hour? Two? Two thousand?
“This better be worth it, you stubborn beast,” Artemy mutters, slowly growing more and more agitated. He’s tired, thirsty, and hungry. He’s about to give up and attempt sprinting past Noukher to get back home when his fingers brush against something hard. His brow furrows together, and he tears away dirt to reveal the wooden surface of something.
Noukher shrieks.
The bull dives forward, and Artemy gets hit hard by his shoulder, which sends him keeling over. After pushing himself back up, Artemy sees Noukher furiously trying to widen the hole with his hooves. Beneath his fervent huffing and grunting, Artemy swears he hears a small sound come from within the pit.
A whimper.

Summary
Now there’s Daniil, real and tangible; shipped himself to the town from the Capital because Artemy asked him to, and Artemy still feels something he can’t quite describe about it. He doesn’t know how long this will last, how long he will stay, and the dread of it keeps intruding into his brain like a migraine that won’t go away. Daniil only arrived yesterday, and they haven’t discussed how much he’ll be hanging around.
He’s here now, he keeps reminding himself. He’s here now, and that’s all that matters.

Summary
Frankly, Sticky understood the Bachelors frustrations. His choices. Ideals. If he hadn’t been sick with plague, barely conscious as a fire brewed behind his eyes and ripped at his bones, he probably would have tried to stop Artemy too. Any of the kids would have.
--
The Polyhedron falls, and the town slowly finds its footing again, and yet it doesn't feel like enough. The Bachelor left with the army, and Sticky can't help but wish that things had been different.-

Summary
“Don’t you want to go home, Vorakh?”
Artemy gave a pensive little sigh, though not an entirely dissatisfied one. “I think I already am, forever.”
Daniil froze with his cigarette halfway to his lips, frowning.
“Do you want to know what it is?” he asked Artemy. “It’s that I hate that word. I’ve poured a countless amount of energy into it these past several years — all the ones I can recall, really. Now I don’t want anyone to handle that word but me.”
“So handle it.”
----
If Daniil had known he was marrying Artemy when he saved him from the plague, he might have thought twice about everything.
