But the Jianghu is not always a forgiving place: the blood isn't made of syrup, the blades aren't dulled at the edges, and the inheritance of the men whose lives they've borrowed is a lot more complicated than character bleed.

The robes hang on Zhehan, like he’s the prop to their spectacle, another person-shaped hanger from another sweat-christened guzhuang. It doesn’t matter that they’ve been tailored to his body—the bottom hem unrolled to account for his height, the waist taken in for filming and let out for the concert, holes darned after hours of wirework—they’ll soon fit another actor.

In which Zhang Zhehan pines after Gong Jun for most of the concert, screws up on stage but still has fun, and makes an incredibly public declaration in front of seven thousand people (and thousands more online, Xiao Yu would like to point out, instead of just texting Gong-laoshi to ask him out at any time in the last few months like a normal bloody person).
There's been so much work, these last two months. And none of it related to acting.
No, not entirely unrelated: the interviewers ask Zhehan questions about the four gruelling but dream-like months in Hengdian. About what it’s like to act as Zhou Zishu—as Lao Wen’s A-Xu, they smile meaningfully and say. What it’s like to act as Wen Kexing’s zhiji.
Pretending he enjoys being asked the same ten questions in a hundred slightly different ways, that’s certainly acting. Playing up the delight he takes in his partnership—his friendship—with Gong Jun while running on five hours of sleep, when the last text between them dates from more than six months ago, that’s certainly acting, too.
