Minghao makes the short walk from the bus stop to his home, a cottage really. The gravel shakes under his converse as he walks up the driveway, feeling the moon on his skin. It’s a familiar feeling, coming back home from work. It’s familiar, but it’s also lonely.
Minghao thinks about Mingyu and his promise to get to know him. He thinks about the man on the bus and his cheekbones. He thinks about the barista across the street. These people are not familiar. They don’t know that Minghao and Soonyoung have abilities and beliefs that they have to keep under wraps outside of their community. They don’t know that Soonyoung is probably writing the barista’s name in their journal, surrounded by incense and rose quartz stones. They don’t know that Minghao will have to cleanse his tourmaline after the tumble it took in the bus. Though, Minghao guesses that’s part of the excitement.
A little unfamiliarity can be exciting.

“What are we?”
“Humans,” he answered easily, pulling Soonyoung’s hand closer to inhale his cigarette, later exhaling the smoke slowly.
Soonyoung squinted his eyes at him, and the latter chuckled lowly after muttering a soft apology, “I don’t know. What the fuck you meant we?”
“You know, friends don’t hold hands domestically and make out regularly like we do.”
“What do you think of us, then?”
“Not sure myself,” Soonyoung sighed contently when Wonwoo stroked his cheek with his knuckle, the cold night air blew past him, “Maybe one day we’ll know.”
