That change in the air as gambling chips slide across tables –whether it's the sweet taste of victory on one's tongue or the sick rush of dread over a defeated man's body– it all depends on the marionettiste's favor over which puppet that night. Wheels of fate spinning endlessly throughout the night, only taking short breaks for men that are naive enough to believe luck is on their side, or ones who are just desperate, praying that luck is on their side.
That was the problem.
Luck has no interest in puppets.
