Evan moves back from France to England after over a decade with very little expectations. He’s never really had any friends and he’s used to people stepping out of his life—why would this time be any different? He’s ready to spend his remaining years at high school alone. It wasn’t a bad thing, necessarily; it just was.
Roy’s problem was that he was a fool. If Dick were there, he’d find a nicer way to word it – idealist, romantic, some bullshit like that – but really, Roy was foolish. He knew the rules, he knew how things were going to end, and he let himself hope every damn time.
